Gameplay

Metawana combines a farming game where players cultivate cannabis NUGS of varying strains and rarities (NFTs) to earn in-game currency, produce higher-level NFTs, and evolve and level-up PvP-based units used in Metawana’s battle mode.

Farming

Getting Started

Free to Play - users will be introduced to the game via a free farming loop to understand the mechanics, strategy, and flow of the game. Users will plant Copper Weed, complete a harvest cycle, and fulfill contracts with their Copper Weed Grams.

Low-Cost Starter Box

Users will be able to buy a moderately priced Starter Stash Box to begin farming, which will contain some Water, Munchies, and Silver Weed. Starter Stash Boxes can be purchased using Solana. Harvesting Silver Weed grams and completing in-game contracts will allow users to level up, eventually giving them the ability to unlock a NFT Stash Box - containing a NUG NFT.

NUG Farming

Users who purchase a NUG during a mint event, earn one in-game, or buy one via a secondary market, will be able to progress faster and complete more complex contracts for additional rewards.

Strains

Metawana’s first release will start with 16 strains, with plans to release new strains every season. Each strain has a unique design, rarity, and can evolve into a corresponding Battle Bud, with abilities and synergies unique to that strain.

Farm Plots

Every player has their own farm. This is where NUGS and Weed are cultivated. Each player will receive one plot of land for free and may purchase additional plots of land as they level up.

On every user’s farm are the following buildings:

  • Farming plots

  • The Nursery: A storage facility for NUGs and Weed

  • The Greenhouse: Store harvested grams

  • The Laboratory: For Battle Bud evolution

  • The Dispensary: To complete contracts and earn rewards

  • The Barracks: To house and evolve Battle Buds

  • The Guild Tower Ruins: A mystery

Cultivation and Protection of Crops

Each crop will be planted on a farm plot and will take a set amount of time to mature for harvest.

Crops will pause their growth if they dry out – Water is needed to continue to grow the plant.

Thieves may appear at random to steal Grams from the plant's yield.

Shelly, the resident Battle Bud, may defend your crops from thieves. Like many stoners, Shelly will work for Munchies. Feed her some yummy treats and she’ll scare away any active thieves.

Level 2 NUGS (Baby Buds) will wake up if any intruders approach and scare off any ne'er-do-wells -- players don't need to worry about protecting them.

Upon completion of a growing cycle, each crop can be harvested for Grams. Each plant will return to storage after a growing cycle to begin its cooldown. Higher rarities will have faster harvest and cooldown times.

Contracts

Grams can be sold at The Dispensary to complete a variety of contracts. Contracts will rotate regularly and offer different rewards based on complexity. The more specialized the contract is, the better the reward. Seasonal contracts may also be available with unique rewards for a limited amount of time.

NFT Unit Evolution

There are going to be five levels of NUGS at initial release. Nugs (Level I) and Baby Buds (Level II) will be introduced to the community via mint events, but further evolutions must happen on the farm.

Metawana Nugs can be evolved to add utility, change appearance, and improve battle capabilities. Nugs have the following levels and utility:

  • Level 1 - Nug - Requires water and munchies to complete grow cycle and earn grams

  • Level 2 - Baby Bud - Requires water to complete grow cycle and earn grams

  • Level 3 - Battle Bud Private - Meditates on farm without the need for water and munchies to earn grams

  • Level 4 - Battle Bud Lieutenant - Increased battle stats

  • Level 5 - Battle Bud Captain - New battle special ability as well as increased stats

Additionally, users can purchase NUGs / Baby Bud / Battle Bud NFTs on exchanges.

Users will have to expend resources to upgrade their NUG to a Baby Bud and then a Battle Bud. Depending on the level, evolving can require:

  • Magic Hemp Oil (MHO) - a burnable NFT only available by cashing out contracts on the farm

  • Burning Lower-Level NUG NFT to reach BattleBud and higher

  • Spending $MWANA token

These resources will be used in the Temple to undergo an instant evolution process. A user must have all the necessary elements for that stage of evolution to begin the process.

Rewards

Upon completing contracts, users will earn Experience Points (XP) and Highlands Cash. Earning XP allows players to level up their farm. Each farm level has a big bonus, either allowing additional farm plots, storing more grams in the Greenhouse, getting free Water or Munchies, or unlocking a Stash Box for a new NFT.

NFTs include Level 1 Nugs as well as Level 2 through 5 Magic Hemp Oil.

Seasons

Metawana will operate on a seasonal basis, which will have effects on both Farming and PvP. When a new season commences, seasonal strains will be released, the PvP meta will be rebalanced, and new game modes will be implemented. Unique seasonal contracts will also offer increased rewards surrounding the new strains. In the first season, 16 Nugs will be available. Each additional season will add new Nugs to the mix, at varying rarity levels.

Raiding

Once a player has Battle Buds available, they may send their troops out on raids to gain resources. Players may raid:

  • The Thief's Den -- To take back some of their lost Grams.

  • Other random players -- Where MWANA can be earned.

Each raid will take time to unfold and will cost a small amount of MWANA to support. Raids will have different chances of success, which will be clearly communicated -- the more risk the player takes, the more potential reward.

Just like contracts, potential raids will reset every few hours.

Players may also wish to farm or obtain a new type of resource called Element Crystals to maximize the power of their Battle Buds.

PvP Auto-Chess Battles

Metawana’s outer and most competitive game loop will be a PvP Battle Game. Players will build a team of Battle Buds to compete against other users for rewards.

Auto-Chess Gameplay

PvP is a unique take on auto-chess, where users have to balance character synergies, resources, upgrades and strategy to build the best team possible. Each Battle Bud will have different strengths and weaknesses that are to be leveraged against an enemy team. Depending on their abilities, each Battle Bud will have a class: Ranged, Healing, Tank, Melee, Assassin etc. The higher the rarity, the more powerful the strain is.

Users will be given a set amount of magic Bongwater at the beginning of the round to draft additional characters from the shop. The user will then have to choose what location on the chessboard to place the characters, taking into account their attacks, synergies, strengths, weaknesses, and abilities – and anticipating what moves their opponent may take. As the game progresses, users can rebalance and upgrade Battle Buds in an attempt to outlast the enemy team.

Battle Buds also have levels – higher level units inflict greater damage and have higher hit points but also, more importantly, have unique special abilities that can be unleashed on the battlefield.
